Tough Times, Making us Stronger!

Firstly, Happy New Year to you and here's to a fantastic 2021! Surely it will be better than 2020 - here's hoping anyway!

It's been a while since we last posted on here, so this month it's a bit of a catch up on some of the things we've been up to, and a bit of a look forward on what's coming up.

On the Cleaning side we have had some personnel changes, vehicle changes, and equipment changes, but fundamentally our services have stayed the same. We still carry out window cleaning, we are still cleaning conservatories, we continue to clean UPVC, fascia boards, soffits and gutters, and yes we continue to pressure wash paths, driveways, patios, car parks and mono-block. Simply we do what we've always done, but we are doing it better! If 2020 has taught us something, it's that we have lots of fantastic customers, and through the challenging times we could do a lot worse than continuing to provide our key services, and where possible improve them.

Our window cleaning services are continuing to grow. Whilst we carry out a lot of work locally in Newton Mearns, Barrhead, Clarkston and Giffnock, our commercial clients have taken us further afield out of the East Renfrewshire and Glasgow bubble and over to Edinburgh, up to Alloa, Clackmannanshire, and further north to Dunblane, Stirling! We continue to clean windows in Aryshire so we really are covering a wide area within Central Scotland and love where the window cleaning work takes us. Most of these locations are where we carry out communal window cleaning on blocks of flats so we are carrying out regular monthly visits and are in a position now to comfortably take on additional jobs throughout Scotland and make it work.

Window cleaning is a key area of service for us, and we love utilising the ever-efficient, effective, but most importantly safe method of Reach and Wash window cleaning. The telescopic water-fed poles, and purified water remove the need for ladders and have become a real cornerstone in our range of professionally carried out services.

In terms of what's coming, well it really is more of the same, cementing our business as the local domestic window cleaner of choice in and around East Renfrewshire, whilst growing our commercial window cleaning services in the wider Glasgow area. From houses to blocks of flats, from offices to industrial units, MKM are happy to help.

On to our Painters - this area of our wee business has solidified over the past 12 months in a way which has taken our Painting and Decorating efficiency to another level. There have been some changes in personal, bringing in much needed experience, and shuffling roles to suit each persons strengths which has allowed us to focus on a consistently high standard and reduce snagging to close to zero. Getting jobs right first time is something that is fundamental to our own standards, but it's what our customers should expect, and the feedback over the past 12 months has been fantastic.

BB, Newton Mearns: 'Another fantastic job from MKM, as usual your work, value and service remain impeccable and my family and I are very grateful - thanks guys and keep up the excellent work'.

LG, Newton Mearns: 'I could not recommend this company enough - possibly the first company of it's kind that I've dealt with that treated me like a real person and valued customer. Every single person we came in contact with at MKM was pleasant, upfront, helpful and kind. They were quick, worked round the clock to get the job done and put our needs first, with wonderful extra touches like cleaning up thoroughly after a days work. The finished job was excellent. If you are in the Glasgow area do not look anywhere else for property services, they will never match up to these guys!'

Similarly to the Cleaning Team, our Painting Team is carrying out work that we are comfortable doing and can produce to a high standard, so there hasn't been too much change. Whether it's small painting jobs where we are decorating a single room, or where a full house is being painted from top to bottom, we have been turning these jobs round in a timely and organised manner with outstanding results. We continue to hang wallpaper with lots of new designs popular as feature walls, and externally we picked off a number of masonry painting projects where the weather permitted!

It's been busy, busy, busy with the Roofing Team as usual with lots and lots of word of mouth enquiries. Most of the Roofing work consists of roof and gutter repairs, although fitting UPVC fascias, soffits and gutters has certainly been the more popular project being carried out. Upgrading the roofline of your home is a fantastic way to quickly transform the look of your house, and incorporating some subtle soffit lights can add that to the stunning look below:

In terms of repairs, these can come in lots of shapes and sizes, but one particular area which has been in particular demand is chimney removal. Chimneys are a frequent source of water ingress and do require regular checks to make sure are not causing water to get inside your home. Whilst it can be out of sight, out of mind, even unused chimneys should be maintained or for longer term peace of mind removed.

We do also carry out annual gutter cleaning and roof surveys for a lot of our customers, to keep on top of the maintenance of their property but also to give them that peace of mind that any unseen issues are quickly identified and rectified. So regardless of whether you are experiencing problems with your roof and gutters, we feel it is essential to keep on top of things with regular

One area of growth for our business is the application of liquid rubber on roofs and gutters. We regularly work with liquid rubber as a means of waterproofing flats roofs where it seamlessly covers a large surface area providing a longer lasting solution. But we also use this product for repair work - it is a fast setting, fully bonded coating which allows leaking gutters for example to be lined quickly and efficiently without the need to dismantle or replace them. This is certainly been a product which has added real value to the services that we provide, and we see this as a long term fixture in the MKM services.

Well, tough one to answer given the impact of COVID-19, however we've got to thin positively! It's looking extremely busy on the Roofing side of things and the key areas we will be working on in the coming weeks and months are:

- Velux window installations

- UPVC Fascias and Soffit replacement

- Reactive Roof Repairs

- and good old Gutter Cleaning

This month some of the guys will be attending a PASMA course for assembly of scaffold towers, and a Working At Heights course to keep up to date with developments. More on that in next month's blog!
